Where to install a modpack

Modpacks are installed from the Modpacks tab inside the Software section of your server dashboard (a separate tab from individually installing standard server software). Spawnly supports four sources:

  • CurseForge — search and browse modpacks, then pick a specific file version.
  • Modrinth — same flow, sourced from Modrinth's modpack catalog.
  • FTB — browse Feed The Beast's official modpack list.
  • Custom ZIP — provide a direct download URL to your own server-ready modpack archive.

Installing from CurseForge, Modrinth, or FTB

  1. Choose a provider, then search or browse for the pack you want.
  2. Select the pack to view its available file versions.
  3. Choose a version and click install.

Where a modpack publishes a dedicated server pack file, Spawnly automatically prefers that over the regular client download, since server packs are pre-configured for headless server use.

Installing a custom ZIP

If your modpack isn't listed on any of the supported providers, use the Custom ZIP option and paste a direct download link to a server-ready archive. You'll also need to select the Java version your modpack requires, since this determines the Minecraft version range the server expects:

Java VersionMinecraft Version Range
Java 81.12.2 and older
Java 111.13 – 1.16.5
Java 171.17 – 1.20.4
Java 211.20.5 and newer

Switching modpacks or updating your pack version

Installing a modpack replaces your server's software and files, so Spawnly always shows an impact warning first:

  • Updating within the same pack is treated as a lighter change.
  • Switching to a different pack entirely deletes existing server files.

Switching to a different modpack deletes your existing server files. Back up first if you want to keep your current world — see Managing Backups & Restoring Your Server.
