Installing Mods on Factorio

Why there's no Workshop browser here

Factorio is installed on Spawnly as a standalone headless binary rather than through SteamCMD, which is why the Mods tab doesn't show a Steam Workshop catalog for this game — Factorio simply doesn't distribute mods that way. There's no automated, Spawnly-side mod manager for Factorio today.

Manage mods from the Factorio client instead

The intended way to add mods is Factorio's own built-in mod portal, accessed from inside the Factorio game client — not from Spawnly's dashboard.

  1. Launch Factorio on your own computer and sign in with your Factorio account.
  2. Open the in-game Mods menu, which connects to Factorio's official mod portal to search and browse available mods.
  3. Enable the mods you want, then connect to your Spawnly server from the client. Factorio handles getting matching mods in place between client and server as part of its own multiplayer sync.

This all happens client-side, independent of Spawnly — the dashboard isn't involved in this workflow at all.

Uploading mod files manually

If you already have a mod's .zip file, you can upload it directly through the File Manager (Files tab) into your server's mods folder as an alternative to the portal, then restart the server to load it.

Good to know

Since there's no dedicated World or Properties tab for Factorio, your save files and any mod-related settings all live in the File Manager alongside everything else.

Next steps

See Getting Started with Factorio on Spawnly for software branch options, and set up Managing Backups & Restoring Your Server before adding mods to an existing save.
