How much RAM does a Valheim server need?
Valheim caps out at ten players, so per-player cost is almost irrelevant. What matters is how much of the world has been visited.
Recommendation
You need a server with at least
6GB
- Engine / Base OS:
- 4 GB
- Player Overhead:
- +0.5 GB
- Estimated Raw Usage:
- 4.5 GB
- Suggested cores:
- 2
- Disk to allow:
- 5 GB+
Light CPU load; the ten-player cap keeps it modest whatever else is going on.
View 6GB PlansWhat actually drives Valheim memory use
The server keeps generated zones resident once they have been explored, so memory grows with the area your group has covered rather than with how many of you there are. A long-running world that has been sailed across in every direction costs considerably more than a fresh one with the same player count.
The mistake to avoid
Forgetting the mod overhead. BepInEx and a Valheim Plus-style configuration add a flat cost on top of the base requirement regardless of world size, and that cost lands at startup — so a server that fitted before adding mods may not boot afterwards.
