How much RAM does a Terraria (TShock) server need?

Terraria's requirement is set by world size, and the jump between world sizes is much larger than the jump between player counts.

Recommendation

You need a server with at least

3GB

Engine / Base OS:
2 GB
Player Overhead:
+0.4 GB
Estimated Raw Usage:
2.4 GB
Suggested cores:
2
Disk to allow:
5 GB+

Very light. World size drives memory, not CPU.

What actually drives Terraria (TShock) memory use

The entire world is held in memory, so a large world costs several times a small one before anyone connects. Thirty-two players on a small world is cheaper than four on a large one. Large content mods add both world complexity and new entities, raising the floor further.

The mistake to avoid

Picking the largest world by default. Choose the world size for the playthrough you want rather than for the maximum, because it is the single biggest lever on both memory and world-generation time.
