Horde night is the peak — zombie pathfinding is what saturates the CPU, not normal play.

What actually drives 7 Days to Die memory use

The world is fully destructible voxel terrain, so every hole dug and every block placed is a permanent change that must be tracked. On top of that steady growth, Blood Moon spawns a large horde of individually simulated zombies at once — the server's peak requirement is horde night, not a normal evening.

The mistake to avoid

Sizing against average use. A server that runs comfortably for six days can run out of memory on the seventh and take the save down with it. Overhaul mods such as Darkness Falls raise both the baseline and the peak considerably.
