Minecraft 1.7.10: Java 8

1.7.10 is the version a certain generation of modpacks never left. It is fifteen years old, it runs on Java 8 and nothing newer, and it remains in use because the mods built for it were never ported anywhere else.

Java version required

8or newer

Older Java will refuse to start. Much newer Java usually works, but the server software is what decides that, not Minecraft.

Availability

Paper was never released for 1.7.10

Pick a different version, or a different server software for this one.

  • Vanilla
  • Spigot
  • Forge

Will what I downloaded work?

Mods and plugins are different things that both arrive as a .jar file. Putting the wrong one in usually produces no error at all — the server starts, and the content simply is not there.

running on Paper

No. Forge produces mods and Paper runs plugins — they are different systems that happen to share a file extension. Nothing will load, and nothing will warn you.

What to watch for on this version

Java is the whole problem here. Modern systems ship Java 17 or 21, and 1.7.10 will not start on either — you need an actual Java 8 runtime installed alongside, and your launcher or start script pointed at it explicitly. There is no Fabric, no NeoForge and no modern Paper for this version, and there never will be.
